Open SourceMac Remote for Air ConditionersNigeria
Breeze is our open-source macOS app for Midea air conditioners. The menu bar shows the set temperature while the unit runs, a dark panel holds every control with animated airflow coloured by mode, and a window carries a key-for-key replica of the Midea hand remote. After a one-time link it talks to the AC directly on the home network.

01 The brief
Midea's own app is phone-only and cloud-first, and the hand remote goes missing. We wanted the AC on the Mac, close to where people work, with the care features the unit supports but nobody uses: schedules, a sleep curve, self clean, filter reminders and power-cut recovery.
02 Our approach
A SwiftUI and AppKit app with a menu bar panel and a window remote modelled key for key on the Midea hand remote, talking to a local Python helper over a token-protected WebSocket on 127.0.0.1.
The helper uses msmart-ng to speak Midea's encrypted local protocol; the token and key are fetched once when the unit is linked, then everything stays on the network.
Opt-in care features: schedules, a six to nine hour sleep curve, periodic self clean, coil drying before switch-off, filter reminders, a power cut notice and electricity cost in naira.
A phone remote limited to the basic controls, global keyboard shortcuts, and breeze:// links that wait for a confirmation before anything reaches the AC.
03 Outcomes
Concrete results, not promises. Each line is something that exists and works today.
Open source on GitHub under the MIT licence
Direct local control after a one-time link, no cloud round trip per command
Each control shows only what the user's unit supports
